Preventing Fires & Coping with Haze

Prevent fires

Do not clear land by burning. It is prohibited and punishable by law.
Do not drop cigarette butts or leave campfires in dry areas and peatland.
Burning peat can smoulder underground for days and is hard to put out.

During haze

Watch the ISPU category. From "Unhealthy", limit outdoor activities.
Wear an N95/KF94 mask; cloth and surgical masks filter PM2.5 poorly.
Close doors and windows; protect babies, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with asthma or respiratory illness.
Drink plenty of water and see a health worker right away if you are short of breath.

See a fire? Report it

Contact the local BPBD, fire brigade, or Manggala Agni.
Give the location as precisely as possible (coordinates/landmark) and the estimated size of the fire.
Do not try to put out a large fire yourself; stay upwind and away from smoke.
