Flood & Landslide Preparedness

Before

  • Find out whether your home is in a flood/landslide-prone area and know the evacuation routes.
  • Clear drains and do not throw rubbish into rivers.
  • Prepare a go-bag: important documents in plastic, medicine, a torch, a power bank, drinking water.

During a flood

  • Switch off the power at the mains and move belongings to higher places.
  • Do not walk or drive through moving water: 15 cm can knock a person over, 30 cm can sweep a car away.
  • Stay away from cliffs and slopes during prolonged heavy rain; watch for ground cracks and muddy water from slopes.

After

  • Return home only once declared safe, and check the wiring before using electricity.
  • Clean the house wearing gloves and boots; watch out for skin disease, diarrhoea, and leptospirosis.
  • Emergency: call the local BPBD, fire brigade, or ambulance.
